Bormio
Bormio: an enchanting little town, rich in hot spring waters, and year-round guaranteed snow.
Resting in the valley, at the foot of the Stelvio Pass and the Ortles-Cevedale mountain range, Bormio is a favourite winter sports location, where a number of important international ski events are held. Bormio is also a famous spa town, known since ancient Roman times for the health inducing properties of its warm spring waters.
At the heart of the historic center of Bormio lies the Via Roma, street lined with fascinating little shops and patrician town houses, with characteristic decorated facades. Edifices of particular note include the Torre delle Ore clock tower and Palazzo de Simoni, which houses both Bormio's town hall and civic museum. Bormio is also home to the Kuercbuilding, once used as courthouse, which owes its curious name (which literally means "lid"), to its slate roof.
Not to be missed, Bormio's characteristic Combo district, reached via a bridge which traverses the Frodolfo river, where to visit the delightful little Sassello Chapel, dating back to the 14th century, the Church of Sant'Antonio and the Sanctuary "del Crocifisso".
