Lake Iseo Hotels - Lombardy

Lake Iseo is Lombardy's fourth largest lake, measuring some sixty one square kilometers. Lake Iseo is the perfect choice for an Italian lakeside holiday, much loved by nature lovers, but also by water sports enthusiasts and those wishing to simply relax at one of the thermal centers and beauty farms located on the lakeshores.

There are a number of interesting lakeside towns more than worthy of visit, such as Iseo and Marone, but it is Montisola, the large island at the center of the lake, which attracts the greatest numbers of visitors. This lake island, Europe's largest, is the visible part of an ancient submerged mountain, on the summit of which the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Ceriola has been built. From here, a stupendous view of the lake and the lush vegetation which surrounds it can be seen.

The principal activity of the inhabitants of Montisola is fishing, still practiced with hand woven nets. The history of the island's ancient art of net making, is recounted in a fascinating little Museum.
